The
Friends of Emsworth Waysides is a new conservation
group set up in September 2009 by a number of local
residents who were concerned at the mowing and
chemical spraying by the Council and its contractors
of roadside verges and other small areas around the
town. The new group will work with the Council to
foster biodiversity, pilot a different approach to
urban wayside management, create wildlife 'corridors'
and encourage residents interest in their local
environment and participation in its management and
maintenance.

The
tidal-filled Slipper Mill Pond lies to the East of
Emsworth where the River Ems enters Chichester Harbour
and the sea. It is a unique brackish wildlife habitat
with: over 25 species of birds, more than 60 different
plants and trees on its banks, * breeding ground for
many fish, especially grey mullet, many different
animals in its muddy bottom - 2 protected species of
mud invertebrates and an interesting tube worm. This
historic pond dating from the 1760s has 34 owners who
have charged the Slipper Mill Pond Preservation
Association with its care and maintenance for the
quiet enjoyment of the public.

Harbour Conservancy is in an Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty comprising 11 square miles of water and
11 square miles of land with 17 miles of well marked

the Solent, makes it an ideal water recreation centre.
There are many inter-related activities such as
sailing, fishing, walking and wildfowling as well as
nearly 9,000 vessels over 3 metres in length, 3,200
moorings, 2,000 berths in four marinas and 14 sailing

Lodge is a bird and wildlife hospital, founded in
1978. It is dedicated to the rehabilitation and
release of injured wild creatures, specialising in
birds and small mammals. The hospital is located near
to Chichester in the South of England, on a site of
one and three-quarter acres. With its range of indoor
and outdoor pens, and attendant medical and surgical
facilities, it is one of the best wildlife hospitals
in the U.K. Brent Lodge is a registered charity and

The Nature Reserve is in the Rother District in
the County of East Sussex, England. It lies on the
coast to the south of the Cinque Port town of Rye, to
the west of the River Rother. Within the wider area of
ROMNEY MARSH the land has several national and
international designations of its wildlife interest.
There are eight Sites of Special Scientific Interest
(SSSI), a candidate Special Protection Area (SPA), a
candidate Ramsar wetland site, a potential Special
Area of Conservation (SAC) and an Important Bird Area
(IBA). Rye Harbour Nature Reserve has all these
designations.

A great site from Richard Ford with lots of
information about digiscoping and some truly wonderful
bird photos - probably the best on the web. Most of
the pictures were taken using a Nikon Coolpix 4500
digital camera, in Hampshire and southern Britain.
Though Richard takes anything that catches his eye,
the majority are images of Birds. Most of the birds
are photographed using the Digiscoping method. Other
images are captured using a Nikon Coolpix alone or
